WANG MENGXI
Documentary Filmmaker|Photographer|Storyteller

I’m Wang Mengxi, a documentary filmmaker, photographer, and writer based between New York and Tokyo.
Having spent six years as a news reporter for a television station, I developed a deep curiosity for the individual stories woven into daily life. I’m drawn to narrative storytelling through dialogue, favoring dramatic plots in a direct film style.
Currently, I continue to work with Chinatown in New York as a cultural symbol—a lens through which to explore immigrant life and spatial memory.

ABOUT
In this video, I share how I began: my roots, my years in journalism, and the quiet turn toward documentary.
It’s a journey of returning to questions of identity—and chasing a deeper sense of what’s real.

My Gaze
My work centers on themes of migration, memory, and the architecture of everyday life.
I’m drawn to stories that are often overlooked—silent moments, unnoticed street conversations, and voices lingering at the margins.
Where Stories Begin
I'm always looking for new stories, new voices, and unexpected collaborations.
If you have a story that deserves to be heard—personal, local, quiet, or bold—I’d love to listen.
Together, we can shape it into something lasting: a short film, a documentary, or a photographic sequence.
Let’s create something that speaks.

Collaborators
I've collaborated with artists, designers, and storytellers whose work inspires me.
Together, we blur the lines between film, visual art, and publishing to share stories of memory and movement.
